Venice Lagoon Plastic Free is pleased to announce the launch of a new crowdfunding campaign for our Ghost Boats 2.0 project. The fundraiser is active on CrowdForLife, the crowdfunding portal of Crédit Agricole Italia. The initiative aims to remove abandoned fiberglass boats from the Venice lagoon, starting them for recycling in respect of our habitat and the lagoon ecosystem.
The “Ghost Boats 2.0” project was selected among the 12 winners of the “Crédit Agricole For Dream” initiative, with the goal of generating a positive impact for the environment and the community. Thanks to the “Crédit Agricole For Dream” initiative, funds raised on CrowdForLife will be doubled by Crédit Agricole Italy and partner Foundations up to a maximum of 50 percent of the target amount. This means that every donation is important and can make a significant difference in helping us reach our goal.
The Ghost Boats 2.0 project is instrumental in addressing the issue of end-of-life boats abandoned in the Venice Lagoon, which Venice Lagoon Plastic Free has intended to dedicate itself to on an ongoing basis through a permanent program. These fiberglass boats, pose a significant threat to marine life, the integrity of our lagoon landscape as well as the safety of navigation. Their identification and removal is therefore of essential importance. Thanks to its own app, the Ghost Boats 2.0 team is able to identify and remove such vessels, through the help of special docked barges that will be rented by VLPF for the first recovery and subsequent transfer of the same boats to recycling centers.
