From May 10th to 12th, InNoPlastic partners, including Venice Lagoon Plastic Free, participated in workshops, clean-up activities, and blue economy meetings on the island of Krk, Croatia, organized by Ponikve, a project partner and the municipal waste management company.
A joint monitoring and clean-up were carried out on Sv. Marak and Zala beaches, collecting 19 kg of marine litter.
The partners discussed beach clean-up methods and conducted a survey of the collected waste, testing a mobile application developed by Empower. Empower also presented an innovative digital platform to promote waste circular economy and the application for organizing clean-ups with the achievement of “Eco Krk” points. The Empower application and platform were also introduced to the local community through a series of blue economy workshops.
In addition to beach cleaning, Ponikve delivered a set of waste sorting bins made from recycled plastic collected from Krk beaches during the past year. These bins will be placed in every classroom of the Krk school. The bins are connected to the Empower Product passport platform, using QR codes for material traceability and a circular economy process based on blockchain technology. Students also volunteered in beach clean-ups and contributed to the collection of recyclable waste for the generation of new products for their community.
